OK ... I suggest all Mods testing this for the first time, go to User Control Panel and select the We-Universal "skin".

That has Avatars on left as we are familiar with.

You can change the style of the forum to your OWN personal taste by going to the User Control Panel and selecting Board Preferences > My Board Style then use the Submit button. You can also set your OWN Timezone.

EACH user can set their OWN Board Style from Many in the dropdown link.

Eventually they will be tweaked to show the required Headings and Footers.

At this stage there may be some difficulty with Google Search and The advertising links in the footer.

OK ... seems to me that loading images ONCE is no issue, but anyone QUOTING them downstream does not see that image.

Shame as that is how it was meant to work.

MAYBE the tech guy at phpbb was talking about a seperate mod he created, to enable that to occur. I'll ask Steve if that might be loaded or I'll ask Yuriy.

Quoting Glen's image, that is hosted by imgur, appears in the post.

However, when I am quoting my image (stored on a laptop) or an image posted by Chris this is the message that I get:

"It was not possible to determine the dimensions of the image. Please verify that the URL you entered is correct."

Even though deleting images should be disabled in User Control Panel | Manage Attachments , I did it anyway to see what would happen.

I deleted the second image in my post above (HipInvest191206.JPG) and this is what happened

Image

The first image (703-4.jpg) is still there but has moved to where the second was and the post says that 703-4.jpg is the one that has been deleted.

Test image attachment 69kb
Test of quotes on attachment after removing and reinstalling extension. Still get the same result

It was not possible to determine the dimensions of the image. Please verify that the URL you entered is correct.

I think the image path in the extension is set to another location than the default attachment file folder.

Will investigate. However I am informed that one of the unwritten marriage vows I took was “not to work on the computer whilst watching reruns of MAFS !!”

So it will have to wait

So the latest method of quoting brings forward images with the following format

Code: Select all

[url=./download/file.php?id=12&mode=view][img]./download/file.php?id=12[/img][/url]
rather than simply showing the original file name of the attachment which should cure the images being brought forward. This is an abbreviated form of

Code: Select all

https://stampmall.com.au/forum/download/file.php?id=12
and if you copy and paste this into a browser, the original image is displayed, so this is the "link" to the image in the traditional way we are all familiar with,

but the image cannot be found and It was not possible to determine the dimensions of the image. Please verify that the URL you entered is correct. is displayed. Strange that a file that does exist can't be located. There must be a setting somewhere to enable this.

Chris,

If you post your quoted image as a url link you are able to see it when you click on the link. But if you post it using img tags, you can't see it and get this message:

"It was not possible to determine the dimensions of the image. Please verify that the URL you entered is correct."

That said, all (most) users will not be able to do their quotes (with images) to display properly in their posts. This has to be a friendly user-interface.:)

P.S. Did someone delete my posts?

I have posted this on Stampboards but since there was no reply I will post it here:
In the User Control Panel, under Manage attachments you can view the images that you have attached to your posts. If you, "MARK" an image, you have the option to delete the marked image. Can this feature be disabled by admin? I don't think users should have the option to remove images once posted.

Yes that would be a disaster.

I imagine it is down to setting user permissions.

Glen knows the ACP better than anybody, perhaps he will play with the user permissions settings ??

I have never used them ..

And while you are at it, give Amark Admin access..

I have not a clue..

Set it up anyways but there are 10,000 options in Control Panel, and I know more of it than most but never wise for others to be changing anything!

There are a lot of things like that we can block. :)

Marco from Italy "3Di" who developed this image quoting extension for phpBB over a couple of years, is aware of this issue, and is discussing it here -

https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/exte ... 71#p747271

These guys are tech geniuses, so hopefully it is just an adjustment to control panel on this board etc, which is 3.3 php lastest version.

OK, Marco the extension designer in Italy suggested I adjust max image settings from 1200 x1200 to 0 x 0 on control panel here, as a temp fix, and it worked!

And multiple images are quoted in the correct order, albeit auto centred (the originals weren't).

By George, I think Steve, Yuri and Marco have solved it. Very well done :D :D :D

The images in the new post are also sometimes smaller than the original which I quite like the appearance of.

I have just reinstated the 900 x 900 max from 0 x 0 which was the quick fix, (that worked here but of course cannot work on a real board situation) to see if we are REALLY there with Fletches1 server adjustment. Sadly the same error message issue as before.

It was not possible to determine the dimensions of the image. Please verify that the URL you entered is correct.

So whether what occurred on server adjustment helped - it seems unlikely? Marco suggested the server adjustment was the main likely issue.

allow_url_fopen button has now been set to ON.

I've moved it back to 0 x 0 so we can play around, but - Houston we still have a problem.

Perhaps 1200x1200 would be a better size.
Most screens can handle that size now. We can train our users to resize their images themselves.

Steve, yes we can do 900 or 1000 or 1200. Our choice, and all work OK.

But we set the box to add MAX to which we choose.

Not setting that (as we have with 0 x 0) and some cretin will load 5000 x 5000!

This is a test of an image uploaded as an attachment to an earlier post but not being used as part of a quote.

Image

Code: Select all

[img]./download/file.php?id=31[/img]
This, too only works if the Maximum Image settings are set to 0 x 0.

I don't think the issue is in Marco's extension.

I think the issue is somewhere in the "download/file.php" code which is part of phpbb itself (?). It doesn't seem to deal properly with Maximum Image Settings that are not the default (0 x 0) and returns the equivalent of a "file not found error" if they are anything else. Going to delve a little deeper.

I saw some settings in ACP that was concerning thumbnails.
Maybe if we activate that at a reasonable size, try 600, we can throttle the very large images from loading and slowing thing down .
Maybe the quotes will work on the thumbnails, and clicking them will provide a pop up lager image ?

Good idea, Steve,

I have set the Maximum thumbnail width/height in pixel: to 600 and added this image which has the original dimensions of 2422 x 3357
022.jpg
It seems to display at a sensible size.

Edit. Clicking on it and viewing it shows it at full size and when saved back to the local PC it is 2422 x 3357.

Quoting seems to work OK, although it does reduce the image in the quote.

Glen,

It seems to be the inbuilt quote function in phpbb that reduces the size of images displayed within it and centres them, not the extension.

This is the same image linked from Imgur.

Image
Image

Code: Select all

[img]https://i.imgur.com/D31WoH3.jpg[/img]
[quote][img]https://i.imgur.com/D31WoH3.jpg[/img][/quote]
Correction: There was a setting to "centre" images in quotes which I have just turned off. It is only required where there is no [centre] tag - we have it at Stampboards but not on this test bed.

Correction (2): It is the extension that is reducing the size of the images within the quotes. I couldn't see a way to turn this off. It possibly needs a tweek to the CSS that controls the display of these.

Now we need to get it to open in a new window, not move away from the forum page. I know how to do it in HTML, but will have to work on it here.

I LOVE the large image, absolutely superb. I can expand one stamp up to occupy the full screen and identify minute differences in the faux opts.

This was the stated function of Marco's Extension below. So the mod specifies 250 but can be altered it seems?

Extension description:

- Quotes and resize attached images only via direct post quoting (not from topic review or copy and paste a quote).
- Resizes the images posted within [IMG] BBcode.
- Each type of attached images are quoted as images.
- The thumbs originated from images posted within [IMG] BBcode remains not clickable.
- Use CSS to center quoted images - selectable in ACP/Posting/post settings - Defaulted to No.
- Quoted images are resized on the fly with CSS.
- The measure of the thumbnail can be modified in the css. Shipped with a "max-height: 250px;"

- No image's hard-manipulation, images are untouched and all of their attributes preserved.
- Unlimited nested quotes compliant.
- Disabling the extension only removes resizing, posts will still show the images at the original size.

Chris .. so when this is done it will convert to a stampboards prefix page right away?

Seems so as this file is already a stampmall image - altho oddly cannot get the stampmall prefix to show even using URL tags? -

1) Uploading images worked fine
2) Creating thumbnails of those images also worked fine
3) This extension just loads the exact same image again, and uses css to resize it. The error is that it's having trouble determining the original size of the image. See this post's attachment.
4) So the [definitely fixable] problem is the extension.

For example, I was able to get it to work by using absolute paths, here: https://stampmall.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?p=45#p45. That means the way the extension is handling relative paths is incorrect.

Leaving allow_url_fopen is bad from a security perspective, and it's not necessary to make this work properly with a little tweaking.
